Moses Mabhida World Cup Stadium Durban

The Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban has a 350 metre long arch on top of the arena making it probably the most visually stunning stadium at the World Cup. Many would compare it to the Wembley arch but there is one major difference, you can travel by cable car along the arch at Mose s Mabhida Stadium, taking in amazing views of the pitch, the city and the ocean.

This is not the first major event that will be hosted in Durban, across the road from the Moses Mabhida Stadium is the Kings Park Stadium and that hosted matches from the 1995 Rugby World Cup and has also been sued for Michael Jackson and Celine Dion concerts.

Moses Mabhida Stadium has some great matches from the group stage, the opening game there will see Germany take on Australia, after which World Cup favourites Spain play Switzerland, then Holland play Japan, Nigeria take on Uruguay there and then finally Portugal take on Brazil in possibly the highlight of the group stage. Two more games will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, one Second Round game and then one of the semi finals.

Durban has already played one key part at the 2010 World Cup, it is where the World Cup 2010 Qualifying Draw was held in November 2007. It is the largest city in the KwaZulu-Natal Province and is also has the busiest port in Africa. The centre piece of Durban is the golden mile which is a 4km stretch of ocean and beach front which are heated by the Aghulas current which will keep tha area warm even during the World Cup which is held in their winter.

Durban hosted group, quarter final and semi final matches at the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations and England beat South Africa there in 2003 in a friendly match which launched the nation's World Cup bid. It has some famous footballing sons which include Sibusiso Zuma, Delron Buckley and Bruce Grobbelaar.
